For adult couples, friends & slower-paced trips
A wine-country day with room to enjoy it.
Long Island is a wine destination, especially on the North Fork. The useful decision is which tasting experience fits your group—not how many wineries you can squeeze in. Start with one seated tasting, a proper meal and a nearby village stop. This guide separates the North Fork from the Hamptons so a relaxing afternoon stays geographically manageable.

Choose your fork and your pace
Aquebogue first
Choose Paumanok for a seated tasting at the western end of this wine route. A single winery plus lunch works well for first-time visitors and groups who want less time in the car.
See Paumanok’s visit rulesSparkling or mixed-wine tasting
Sparkling Pointe gives sparkling-wine drinkers a clear focus. Bedell offers a broader wine stop in Cutchogue. Choose one as your anchor, rather than treating both as compulsory.
Compare sparkling tasting pricesAlready in the Hamptons?
Wölffer belongs on a Hamptons route. Keep it with Water Mill or Bridgehampton; a same-day detour between the forks can consume the time you wanted for lunch and scenery.

Times, driving allowances and food budgets are our editorial suggestions. Reservation confirmations control the actual schedule. Both budgets assume two adults: one wine taster and one designated driver who does not drink. If both adults want wine, add a pre-booked return transport quote before treating either budget as complete.
Aquebogue: one tasting, lunch and an easy finish
Adults / older adults · start in Aquebogue · about 3–4 hours on site, plus your journey
- Suggested 11:30am: have an early lunch in Aquebogue or Riverhead before your tasting. Choose a restaurant that has confirmed lunch service on your date; allow a seated break rather than relying on snacks.
- Suggested 1pm: one reserved Paumanok tasting. Choose indoor seating if the weather is uncertain. Order food there if you prefer one venue for lunch and tasting; outside picnics are not permitted.
- Suggested 2:30pm: return toward Riverhead for a short town-center stroll or coffee. Keep this optional if your group prefers to finish after a seated afternoon.
Rainy-day swap: keep the confirmed indoor tasting and a seated meal; replace the outdoor stroll with coffee. Allow 15–25 minutes between Riverhead and the vineyard as an editorial traffic allowance. Ask for the closest step-free entrance, table seating and restroom location when reserving. Book the weekend table and return transport before you commit to the day.

Southold tasting + Greenport harbor
Adults / couples · start in Southold · about 4–5 hours, excluding travel from home
- Suggested noon: start with lunch in Southold, or book a later tasting and eat first in Greenport. Budget for a meal; do not bring a picnic into the winery.
- Suggested 1:30pm: one seated Sparkling Pointe reservation: a Flagship Flight for the taster and lemonade or iced tea for the driver.
- Suggested 3pm: continue east to Greenport for a short Front Street / Mitchell Park harbor loop. Allow roughly 15–25 minutes from Southold, plus parking time. Turn back early enough for daylight and your return arrangements.
Rainy-day swap: confirmed indoor wine seating and a café in Greenport. The East End Seaport Museum is a seasonal option; consult its hours before substituting it after late October. Greenport parking in the paid season is $3.50/hour; confirm signs and time limits. See our Greenport village plan for the route and seasonal cautions.

Pack for the day you planned

For autumn tasting-room terraces, bring an existing warm layer and shoes comfortable enough for gravel or an uneven path. A water bottle is useful between stops; follow each venue’s rules for outside beverages. A small bag keeps reservation details and ID together.
Use what you already own. If a rain layer is missing, compare packable hooded rain layers on Amazon (paid link). For sheltered town walks, compare compact umbrellas (paid link). In strong coastal wind, a hooded layer is usually more practical than an umbrella. Prices and availability appear at the retailer.
Questions to settle before you go
Is wine country suitable for families?
This page is planned around adult tasting visits. Sparkling Pointe and Wölffer publish child policies, but permission to bring children is not a children’s activity. For a day centered on kids, use the Long Island family guide or picking guide. Ask Paumanok and Bedell directly about your group.
Can I do the North Fork and the Hamptons in one day?
Choose one fork for a relaxed tasting day. These routes deliberately keep nearby stops together. For a South Fork stay, use our Hamptons and Montauk planning guide and book Wölffer separately.
Are there options for people who do not drink?
Yes: plan a village, art or shore day as the main outing. Sparkling Pointe’s published menu includes non-alcoholic drinks, but ask whether a reservation has a minimum spend for each guest. Never assume a driver will be admitted free to a paid package.
